Strengths
Effective when it comes to solving philosophical and theological problems
Does not leave you with anthropomorphic descriptions of God, Preserves the mystery of who God is.
If myths are seen as figurative, then there is no need to ask for evidence to back up the Biblical stories.
Armstrong: If you loss myth, you loss a part of yourself. Myth is not simply just a story. a person is made up to 1) Logos and 2) Myth. you need those two.
The alternative to taking stories in the Bible as figurative and symbolic is taking it literally which is very dangerous. There are more problems with this than the former.

Weaknesses
The main weakness is as follows; if the point of myth is to say that things are not to be taken literally, then this completley debunks the idea of the resurrection in Christianity. Why believe something if it isn't straightforwardly true?
How can we be sure that we are understanding the right truth?
Interpretation is different for each person.
If truth is being expressed, isn't it better for it for be expressed directly?
