AAA:
Tackle issues with agriculture. Overproduction was the biggest problem/ Reduce everything and get money from the government
Lose of jobs due to reducing everything and as most blacks in the south worked in agriculture
TVA:
Created dams to control floods and generate electricity. Cheaper to live
Workers given segregated facilities. Unskilled jobs. Discriminatory practices leaked to the NAACP
CCC: Organisation for young people between 17-24. 250,000 worked on reforestation, soil conservation and forest management.
Fechner did not employ blacks until the Roosevelt administration intervened 200,000 black Americans worked. Complete segregation in July 1935.
NRA:
Assisted businesses. Codes that encouraged minimum wage and maximum hours. Allowed to display the seal of approval: The blue eagle.
Famously unfair. No workers in agriculture, domestic service (most blacks worked in these) . Workers in industries had their job's classification redefined as employers avoided the set wage levels.
PWA:
$3.3 billion of federal funding. Constructed schools, hospitals and roads.
$65 million spend on black homes, hospitals. Equal pay
NYA:
Work for 16-25
Paid to go to college £6-40 a month. Included women. Could stay at home and be given work in the local area.
500,000 black Americans benefited. Fair pay but accepted segregation.
FERA:
Loaned money to help the unemployed and fund work projects. $4,000 million.
Lower standard of living so could live off less. 1/3 benefited.
1933: 3.5 million received help. But discriminated locally. Hard to get on welfare rolls and paid less.
Social Security:
Welfare state. Payment low: $10-85 per month. First national system of benefits
Many excluded due to job. Opposed health insurance from the American Medical Association
