The Reichstag election was called to make Hitler the leader, legally and legitimately.
SPD and the Communists were in camps and their meetings were broken up. They were blamed for the fire
During the campaigns, violence and terror spread by the members of the SA.
Altogether, 69 people died during the campaign that lasted 5 weeks.
Propaganda: 'Appeal to the German People'-31st of January, 1933. This sought out economic conditions and also emphasised the importance of religion, as well as advertised the Nazis ideals such as family.
The Nazi party also received more money. At a meeting on the 20th of February, Hitler was promised 3 million Reichmarks.
The result was that the Nazis had an overall victory but not an overall majority. They won with 43.9% but did not have the 2/3 majority needed to change the constitution.
People, especially Catholics in rural areas voted for the Nazis as they feared communism.
